Scriptorium Collegia 2026
The Lochac College of Scribes and the Barony of Rowany are pleased to present our Scriptorium Collegia. This is intended for those who have already begun their foray into illumination and wish to explore both gilding and also transforming pigments into paint.
Feasting:
The College of Scribes will be hosting a Guild Feast with simple fayre on the Saturday Eve. We would extend a hearty invitation to all members of the populace to join us as we celebrate the camaraderie and contribution of the College of Scribes within the Kingdom.
For Scribes:
The 2-day Scriptorium will be exploring period practices in these arts and then utilising modern / non-toxic materials in a workshop format, to create a scroll with custom marginalia for participants to take home with them. The event is fully catered.
The workshop (day time) portion of the event will be non-garbed / garb optional.
While participants will need beginner-level of experience in illuminating scrolls or painting with gouache, participants are not expected to have any gilding or pigment experience. While we will not be formally teaching calligraphy during this workshop, if scribes have any specific calligraphy questions these can be addressed by various scribes.
Accommodation Options:
Shared motel accommodation (two people per room) is available on site for $35 per person. Rooms with three single beds are available. Requests to share with a specific person, or as a family unit, are welcome and will be accommodated where possible.
Scribal Supplies:
Some scribal supplies will be available for participants to purchase, at cost. Participants will be contacted after booking.

Non-members add $10 per adult, or $5 per person under 18.
Bookings are required and all payments must be made by EFT before 9th October.
Booking for the Scriptorium will be processed prior to bookings for the Feast, to ensure that there are enough Feast places for the scribes attending the entire event.
Participants are reminded that if they are unwell or showing cold or flu-like symptoms, they must not attend.
Event Timetable:
Day 1:
8am – site opens for stewarding team
9am – Scribal Collegium Opens.
Focus will be on completing the scroll layout and gilding the scroll with gold transfer leaf.
12pm – Lunch
4pm – Start packing up Scriptorium, in preparation for feast
5pm – Feast Opens for populace
6:30pm – Food service and Baronial Court
10pm – Feast Closes and pack down.
Day 2:
8am – Continental Breakfast
9am – Scribal Collegium Continues
Focus will be on the utilisation of pigments to illuminate the scrolls.
12pm – Lunch
4pm – Scribal Collegium Closes, pack up.
5pm – Departure time
