IMPORTANT! No Candles at Yule

From the Steward:

IMPORTANT: NO CANDLES AT YULE TOMORROW

Hi everyone, I just found out from the venue that they’ve installed
heat-sensor fire alarms in Petersham Town Hall which will trip if it
detects an intense point-load heat-source, like a candle or match (but
clearly not post-practice sweaty fighter ).

If it trips we will be liable for over $2000 for the fee the fire brigade
charges for a false alarm AND we will not be able to get back into the
building for 2-3 hours.

While this is very, very frustrating, I am sure you agree we’d rather have
an event with no candles than be outside on the footpath and lose $2000.

It will be light in that hall until 8pm, by which time dinner will have
been served and eaten. We have a stash of LED tea lights already (thanks
Iseabail). I will buy some more today for each table. This will at least
get close to simulating low light conditions

If you have an LED type light that is period-esque you may wish to bring it
along.

Thank you so much for your understanding, I’m as disappointed/frustrated as
you are.

Clara, Steward”

IMPORTANT NOTICE – Venue change TBA – Petersham Town Hall closed for ten weeks from Jan 20th

From the Seneschal:

Marrickville council have just called me.
Petersham Town Hall will be closed for ten weeks from Jan 20th, for repairs to the structure of the hall.

Unfortunately, Marrickville Town Hall is *not* going to be available to us as an alternative.

They are still sorting out what options may be available to us – perhaps a combination of St Peters and Herb Greedy Hall. Or we may need to go back to doing fighting at Camperdown park.

This has not yet been decided, but I will let you know when it happens.

Fighter prac will continue – and will return to Petersham after the ten weeks.

Fencing Tournament and Garb (costume) night (3 Dec 2013)

To the Populace of the Barony of Rowany
From Lord Gomez de Crecy

Greetings,

The time has come for a fencing tournament to be held as a practice for the Rapier championship at Yule. This tourney will be a points based round robin format.

This is a garb (costume) night so please com in full kit. The armoured combatants will be in attendance to support us.

The venue will be Petersham Town Hall (see the Addresses & Maps page for details) on the December 3rd, which is a Tuesday night. Inspection starts at 7.30pm and tourney starts at 8pm. Finish time is 10pm.

(The tournament will be in place of regular Tuesday night combat practice)

Now more singing, dancing and other non-combat activities from 6pm Tuesdays at Petersham Town Hall

There is a regular fighter practice each Tuesday evening at Petersham Town Hall, yes, check, we knew about that :)

What you may not be aware of is…

We’ve extended the hire time for the Petersham Town Hall on Tuesdays! We now hire the hall from 6pm (instead of 7pm) and are using the earlier availability to focus more on humanity type activities.

Non-combat related events on Tue are growing, with more regular singing, dancing and various other activities happening FROM 6PM ON.

So, before the more voluminous physical conversations happen (yes, I mean combat practice), the more artistic and gentle arts are now getting together more frequently and in less noise distracted fashion, earlier on Tuesdays (they do also happen elsewhere, we just wish to make you aware of an earlier opening time at Petersham Town Hall on Tuesdays).

So, the hall is now being used more regularly for singing, dancing and other arts from 6pm till 7.30ish. At that point there is definitely more making of noise from combat, but even then, other areas of the hall are available for use (and being used as such) for non-combat focussed SCA activity.
