From the Baron & Baroness – First Update

Unto the Populace of Rowany do Baroness Ameline and Baron Miles send warmest greetings.

It has been an exciting month! And a busy one. It has been great to see so many of you at events both near and far.

A month ago, we stepped up as Baroness & Baron. This was a wonderful event stewarded by Sigvald and team. We were especially impressed by the delicious repast created by Lady Tatya and her team, created in such difficult conditions. Thank you also to Lady Annabel for her organisation of the Agincourt carol. We were also very pleased to witness the elevation of Mistress Clara van de Maes to the Order of the Laurel.

In the last month we have had two demos, one at the Blacktown Medieval Fair, and more recently, at Supanova. Great thanks to Skarpathan for his organisation of these, and all of those who volunteered their time. We had a great time at the Blacktown demo, and it was good to be able to include Combat Archery in the display for the first time.

We were pleased to accept the kind invitation to attend Dismal Fog’s Panther Hunt event. This was an archery focused event. It was good to see members of our Barony travelling to visit our near neighbours. Special thanks to the Bunny Rabbit, the Dragon & the Panther.

Further afield, we also travelled to Great Northern War. The Northern Reaches as always put on a wonderful event, and we are sure that those others from Rowany who travelled there also enjoyed it as much as we did. Lots of good fighting, good company, and also lots of fire.

Last night we had our first Baronial event within our tenure, the Pheast of the Pheasant in our Canton of Okewaite. It was good to see many travellers from central Rowany & Stowe, and also some guests from Politarchopolis. Thank you to Cristoval for providing such marvelous food – including an item or two for the more adventurous to try. At this event we were pleased to recognise Lady Helouys of Politarchopolis with a Silver Cinquefoil for her work for the Barony, especially in Okewaite; also Lady Bella Rose of Okewaite for work on Flanders costume with Rowan Berries; and also recognising the exemplary courtesy of Baroness Alys Dietsch with the Order of the Dovetail.

In the next month, we will be travelling both to the Stormhold Investiture on the 21st of June, and Midwinter Coronation in Politarchopolis on the 5-6th of July. Closer to home, the College of St Ursula is hosting College War at Glenfield, and also Stowe on the Wowld will be holding their Ludi Natalis Birthday Feast on the 19th of July. We hope to see many of you at these events.

In Rowany’s new monthly A&S Challenge and Display, as organised by Mistress Clara, in the month of June we are looking at both Cooking and also Music – two great categories that we hope to see many members participate in. July will follow with Plants & Herbs, and Textiles & Fibre Arts – so start thinking about what you might like to try for those areas as well.

We are currently working on getting the Barony’s award records into a form that they can be displayed on the website. Please don’t forget to recommend to us those members of the Barony that you feel are worthy of recognition.

GST for Event Stewards

Unto the Populace of Rowany does the Reeve send Greetings,

It has been brought to my attention that there is some confusion over how to calculate the GST component for event reporting.

The good news is there’s not much calculation required by you. The total amount collected from the event fee (Cell E27) is divided by 11 to create a value in cell J28 (GST collected).

To fill out “GST paid”, add up the amount of GST you paid from receipts or invoices (hall hire, food, miscellaneous) and enter it there. Remember that the original receipts or invoices must still go to the Reeve for filing and double checking purposes.

“GST Liability” should automatically be calculated by the spreadsheet. If not, the liability is the difference between the amount of GST collected and the amount of GST paid (or, in spreadsheet cell terms “=J28-J29″).

I hope this clarifies the matter satisfactorily.

Yours in Service

Jean-Christophe le Saussier

Reeve.

Financial Policy Version 1.1 Available – Suggested Reading

To the Populous of Rowany,

We tend to have quite a lot of activities in the Barony. Many of these involve money as not much comes for free and people / organisations expect to get paid for things like venue hire.

Anyone dealing with money in relation to any kind of activity within the Barony should be aware of and adhere to our financial policy. This will ensure you understand how things work, things run smoothly, and everyone is happy (especially our Reeve whose job is difficult enough, the tax man, our B&B, my mum…  you get the picture).

Version 1.1 of our Financial Policy can be found at the following link:

http://rowany.lochac.sca.org/files/2014/02/Rowany-Financial-Policy-v1.1.pdf

Thanks to our Reeve, Jean-Christophe le Saussier, for creating this document.

New template for submitting financial reports after running events

To those running events in the Barony,

Our Reeve has created a new template which will help you prepare the financial report required when an event is run.

This should make things quicker and easier for those running events, and also means our Reeve receives the right information in a more ‘standard’ format, which will also make his life easier.

So, if you are running or going to run an event, please download the following file and use it for creating your financial report. File 1) is the template and file 2) contains the instructions.

1) http://rowany.lochac.sca.org/files/2014/01/TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-01.txt
2) http://rowany.lochac.sca.org/files/2014/01/TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-Instructions.txt

Note:

  • The files were created in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) but will open in any compatible program (Open Office, Libre Office etc.)
  • The extension on the files were renamed to .txt for security reasons
  • As such, before the files will open correctly, you must change the filename for 1) back to .XLSX and 2) back to .DOCX

(change  “TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-01.txt
to be        “TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-01.xlsx
        AND
change  “TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-Instructions.txt
to be       “TEMPLATE-Rowany-SCA-Lochac-Events-Financial-Report-Instructions.xlsx)

Thanks to our Reeve, Jean-Christophe le Saussier, for creating the template.

YiS,
Jan

Greetings to All –

We, Loyola and Myself, with the permission of Their Majesties Niall and Liadan, must announce that it is time to begin the search for successors.

We have been privileged to serve these past years as the Baron and Baroness of Rowany but now feel that the time is right for us to step aside and open the position to a worthy contender. We ask on Their Majesties behalf that all intentions be made directly to the royal email: crown(AT)sca.org.au

We hope that intentions will be declared by Twelth Night, so that King Niall and Queen Liadan may pass on these to their Heirs Prince Alfar and Princess Angharat for deliberation.

The date selected for the Changeover is May 3rd.
Once we have more details, we will update everyone accordingly.
We thank you sincerely for your support during our time as Baron and Baroness, and look forward to working together over the coming months during this process.

Yule Tournaments – Heavy and Fencing – 14 Dec 2013

To the Kingdom of Lochac, and to all Knights, squires, man at arms and all who enjoy the combative arts within the Kingdom of Lochac, does Sir Gabriel de Beaumont, former squire of Count Sir Berenger of Nancy, invite you to a celebration.

Ten glorious years has passed since Alaric & Nerissa, Third King and Queen of Lochac, did elevate Berenger of Nancy to the Order of Chivalry in AS XXXVII at Rowany Yule.

Let it be known that on the 14th Day of December, we, the extended Household of Nancy, being Sir Berenger of Nancy and his squires, students and men of arms, and those knights, squires, students and men at arms who claim lineage to him, will hold the field in the Barony of Rowany against all who would challenge us in a passage of arms. The forms of the challenges shall be inspired by those weapon forms loved by Sir Berenger of Nancy, being either the matched forms of sword and shield, single sword or matched halberds. All challenges shall be fought either as a single combat, team melee, counted blows or over the barrier.
This will also be the last time that one of the members of the extended Household of Nancy, THL Stigh Joghensson will take the field as my squire before his elevation to the Order of Chivalry at the Feast that evening.

We hope that many will come and cross weapons with us in the spirit of friendship, or will watch this wonderful spectacle.

And… to the Kingdom of Lochac fencers and to all members of the guild of Defence be it be known to all that profess skill at arms that we, Provost Lindoret of Bryn Myrddin and Provost Gomez de Crecy, do give leave and licence to our students, Mistress Baroness Alexous of Yuri, and Tatjana Natasha of Lunihawk, to play there Free Scholars Prizes against all Free Scholars, Journeymen, Provosts and Guild Masters in their subtle mystery at these weapons, viz: rapier and dagger. We are honored that her highness Queen Liadan, as a member of the Guild of Defence, will be testing our scholars upon the fencing field.

Following this demonstration of skill, a tournment of rapier will be held to determine the Rowany Rapier Champion, we invite all having the prowess in the art of defence to take the field for the glory of Rowany that she may be well defended.
11:00 Armour inspection
11:30 Free scholar prizes
12:00 Pas d’Armes Tournament
12:30 Rowany Rapier Champion Tournament

Location: Petersham Park, Petersham. [Map]

The list fields will be at the Brighton St end (opposite end from the cricket field).

Bring plenty of water, something to sit on, and something to eat for lunch.

Yule Feast will be held following the tournaments.
