Bunch o’classes – change of date

an illumination of a carpenter at work with his wife spinning in the backgroundNow that College War has been cancelled I’m changing the date of Bunch o’classes. The original date, 15&16 June, is the weekend before the College’s exam week and so many of our newer members who are interested and would benefit from the event would not be able to attend.

The new date for Bunch o’classes is 13&14 July so that the Collegians can attend.

A teaser on some of the classes on offer:

  • Period spice mixes for cooking
  • How to make hats
  • Knitting in period
  • Men’s 14th century purses (a workshop, you’ll make one on the day)
  • How to put together a late period bodice – what to do once you have a pattern (layers, construction techniques, finishing)
  • How to draft and fit sleeves
  • Cover thy head: veils, caps and how to wear them
  • Bread making in period

All other details to follow.

Bunch o’ Classes – June 2013

an illumination of a carpenter at work with his wife spinning in the backgroundRowany Bunch o’classes is on again. Come along for a weekend of collegia in a variety of A&S areas, including costuming, cooking, fibre crafts, and learn from some of Rowany’s skillful artisans.

At this stage we’re looking for teachers. If you’d like to teach a class or a practical workshop then contact the organiser. If you don’t have a specific class idea, but would like to contribute, then have a look at the list of skills pulled together under the Rowany Academy Areas of Study and see if there’s something you know how to do that others may benefit from learning.

We’ll also be recognising the first Artisans of the Rowany Academy, in the various areas of study of the Academy.

A&S Dence Park Timetable (3 Mar 2013)

Hi everyone,

Below it the time table for the Dence Park A&S Day:

Kids Classes

A&S regular Dence Park activity starts (27 Jan 2013)

The regular A&S activity in Dence Park, Epping starts Sunday 27 Jan 2013.

The Center will be open from 9.30-4.30 and we will have a break in the middle for a Pot Luck lunch. This would be a great time for anyone who would like to try out some of their period cooking on a receptive audience to bring out some of their creations. Alternatively just bring along something to share, it does not have to be a period dish.

The dates for 2013 are:

  • 27th January
  • 3rd March
  • 28th April
  • 25th May
  • 27th July
  • 10th August
  • 29 Sep
  • 12 Oct
  • 23 Nov
  • 8 Dec

We have access to an old bowling green outside the Center so anyone who would like to do some fencing is welcome to use this area and at this stage we also have the provisional agreement to do heavy fighting in this same area.

If you would like to hold a class or contribute by showing a skill or helping others learn something new, we would love to hear from you. Send your details to our organiser, Tina Bean, at tinofbeans001@gmail.com  Dance classes will start at 1.30pm in the afternoon and hope any musician’s seeing this will be interested in coming along and helping us out.

Address

The Epping Creative Centre, Dence Park, 26 Stanley Road, Epping

For those needing public transport there are regular trains to Epping Station. Epping Station is 1.1 km from Dence Park so the walk from the Station will take about 10-15 minutes. Or if you would rather buses you can catch the M54 which goes near Epping Station on Beecroft Rd every 20 minutes on weekends and will take you to within 500 meters of the Creative Center if you get off at the Epping Road near Crandon bus stop just two  stops or if you miss that one the next stop will get you to within 800 meters of the Center. For those who want to drive there is loads of parking, some of it is double parking so if you are not staying all day make sure that you know who you are parking in front of it. Most of the parking is not double parking and is not a problem.
